La jornada técnica agroalimentaria ‘Desafíos del sector viverístico y de planta ornamental frente a la Xylella fastidiosa’ tendrá lugar el próximo martes 26 de junio a las 10:30 horas en la Estación Experimental Cajamar (Puerta de Purchena, 10 – Almería). El acto está organizado por la Junta de Andalucía y Cajamar Caja Rural, en colaboración con el IAS-CSIC, Coexphal, Asociafruit, Asehor y Asfplant.

El pasado mes de abril se detectó por primera vez la presencia de la temida Xylella fastidiosa en Andalucía, concretamente en la localidad de El Ejido. Esta bacteria provoca enfermedades de gran importancia en olivar, viñedo, almendro, cítricos y otros cultivos. Desde su detección en Italia en 2013, provocando la muerte de millones de olivos, la bacteria se ha localizado en otros países como Francia y Alemania, en principio con escasa incidencia. Sin embargo, en octubre de 2016, se encontraron plantas de cerezo afectadas por Xylella fastidiosa en las Islas Baleares, y desde entonces son ya más de 15 especies afectadas. En junio de 2017 se produjo la primera detección de la bacteria en la península, y actualmente afecta a una superficie de más de 1.000 hectáreas localizadas en tres comarcas del norte de Alicante en almendro, no habiéndose detectado en otras comarcas de la Comunidad Valenciana. Más recientemente se ha producido otro brote sobre un olivo en la Comunidad de Madrid. En El Ejido, el positivo se ha detectado en un vivero de producción de planta ornamental, en concreto sobre plantas de lechera del cabo (Polygala myrtifolia), y se sospecha que la vía de entrada de la bacteria ha sido la introducción de material infectado de otra zona.
